NAB Educational Initiative

To Promote Outreach and Education to Underserved and At-Risk Populations on Alzheimer’s Disease

In 2023, there are an estimated 6.7 million people aged 65 and older living with Alzheimer's Disease (AD) in the United States with this number expected to more than double by 2060. Healthy People data also show that only 59.7% of those living with AD have been formally diagnosed with the disease. Moreover, The Alzheimer’s Association FactSheet (2020) cited that Black Americans and Hispanic Americans are less likely to receive a formal diagnosis of Alzheimer’s although they are more likely to have the disease than white Americans. In light of the increasing prevalence and disparities of AD, it is important to provide effective AD education among populations at risk.

Our initial goal will be to create educational resources addressing various themes of AD, and spreading these resources to chapters throughout the nation to distribute to their local community. Through these resources, we aim to increase early detection of AD, provide updates on AD research, debunk myths and stigmas around the disease, and address the disparities that are present across cultures.

Delivery process

A team of interns with the national organization will create these infographics at the beginning of each semester. Select chapters should expect to receive this infographic during the Fall/Winter semester by mail from NAB. Throughout the semester, the chapters are expected to distribute this infographic to community centers such as retirement homes, public libraries, and other areas catered to different populations of interest.
