California State Polytechnic University, Pomona or Cal Poly Pomona is a public polytechnic university located in Pomona, California, one of the largest counties in Los Angeles. Cal Poly Alzheimer's Buddies was founded in the fall of 2015 with 10 members and 3 directors. The Cal Poly chapter began the very first Ipad initiative.
Andrew Steele is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Biological Sciences, College of Science at Cal Poly Pomona. He is the faculty advisor to the CPP chapter of the Alzheimer's Buddies program. His interests include, "continuing to determine how the brain functions in health and disease, in particular examining how circadian rhythms are influenced by feeding."
Vivianne Mitri is the Founder and Co-director of CPAB. Aside from CalPoly Alzheimer's Buddies, Vivianne is research assistant in a neuroscience lab at Cal Poly Pomona and a volunteer at a nearby hospital Emergency Room department. She states "I hope to spend the majority of my future time researching neurodegenerative diseases, with Alzheimer's as my first priority."
Jocelyn Chung is a graphic design major at California State Polytechnic University, Pomona. Jocelyn states " I deeply care for people, especially those who have been forced into isolation by society. After watching the documentary "Alive Inside", I was intrigued to learn more about music therapy in the context of Alzheimer's patients. Also today, the younger generation has such disdain for the elderly for the elderly. I believe that the CPAB program can not only bridge the gap between generation, but also further research for Alzheimer's Disease and Dementia."
Nathaly Aquino is a senior at CalPoly Pomona. She is majoring in food and nutrition under the dietric track. She works at Cal Poly conducting research with the plant science department, specifically with Asian Cintrus Psyillid and Tamaraxia. She also coaches a high school volleyball team. I hope to become a Registered Dietitian, working with Alzheimer's patients. After working in the clinical field, she hopes to apply to medical school. On her free time, Nathaly likes to go camping, jet skiing and trying new foods and learning about different cultures.
